Mackerel Fishing in Whitby

Our sunset mackerel fishing trips are always a popular fishing trip. We run them regularly throughout mackerel season – July and Augusut.

We often fish during the evening, from 7pm – 9pm. This year were treated to some wonderful sunsets, as the sun drops into the sea beyond Sandsend.

Mackerel fishing is a great way of learning the basics of angling. It’s suitable for all ages and experience levels, from beginner to expert. We’re always on hand to help get to grips with rods and reels, as well as giving advice on casting, what bait to use and so on.

This is what one of our customers had to say after their first sea fishing trip:

Amazing day’s fishing. First time fishing, first time out in a boat fishing, great guys on board made everything fantastic, would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back in the near future, thank you so much for showing me the ropes and hooking me!

Libby heading out to sea for a day’s fishing

With a new engine and control unit fitted to Libby, our wonderful fishing boat, we are ready to welcome aboard all those who want to explore the North Yorkshire coastline and try their hand at sea fishing.

We had some great feedback over on our Facebook page last year, and are always thankful for those who take the time to leave us a review, like this one:

Had a great day out with my 10 year old son caught a massive amount of fish mainly by Louie (my son) which he keeps reminding me! We were out for three hours and the skipper, Ken, was amazing. I could not recommend him any more highly, we caught loads of fish and Louie had a great time learning a lot from Ken.

Thank you will definitely making many more return visits!

As always, we’ve plenty of rods and reels on board so anyone can give fishing a go, whether you’ve got your gear or not.

On a beautiful sunny day, what could be better than being a couple of miles off shore, enjoying the blue sky and clear waters & waiting for the next bite!

We hope to see you soon!

New Engine for a New Year

Libby regularly undergoes maintenance such as mechanical services and new paintwork. But every now and then a much larger job is required – like fitting a new engine!

A new engine for Libby

Click the button below to see Ken testing the new engine before it was fitted into Libby in time for the 2020 fishing season to begin.

Ken also built this new dashboard for the engine using a handful of spare VDO gauges, some LED warning lights and a new ignition switch. It’s ready to be wired into the loom for the new engine:

As always, safety onboard Libby is our number 1 priority, which is way we’re always proactive in replacing things which a nearing the end of their life.

This new engine should give us years of reliable service, ensuring we can get out to the best fishing grounds in good time and always return home safely at the end of the day.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Libby for a Whitby fishing trip sometime soon!
